Receiving the Social Affairs delegation

On 22 February 2024, the Divisional Delegate of Social Affairs for Mezam and the head of the Bamenda social centre visited CVID-Cam as part of visits to social structures. Members and participants attended. An opening prayer was followed by presentation of the agenda.

The coordinator welcomed the delegation and introduced the organisation’s vision and mission. She described education, health, protection and livelihoods as its four main fields of activity, before presenting achievements, difficulties and the work plan for July 2023–June 2024.

The activities presented

The coordinator reported work on disability documentation, referrals, vocational training and livelihood support. She described six disability cards established and two awaiting collection, and a list of 20 birth-certificate requests reported ready for collection. These were the statuses presented at the meeting.

She also described Regional Assembly support for poultry training, four people trained and supported through AI ChrisWOV, two vocational-training referrals and assistance sought for school participation. Contributions discussed included assistive equipment from IRC, WASH supplies through PLAN International and support from Social Affairs during the previous AGM. These examples should not be added together as a total of different people reached.

Constraints discussed openly

The presentation identified shortages of office equipment, uncertain accommodation, limited regular funding and demand exceeding the available resources. Missing civil documents made some referrals harder. Families’ participation and coordination with other organisations also required attention.

The proposed response combined home visits, basic-data collection, school and community outreach, member training, fundraising and project writing. Physical and online meetings were intended to help coordination. The plan included monthly reporting, field visits and opportunities for members who had attended seminars to share their learning.

Recommendations and the close

The delegate said a technical report and the organisation’s file had been forwarded through the administrative hierarchy. He encouraged attention to sustainable impact and proposed coordination on documentation and capacity building. His comments were offers to follow up and network, rather than confirmation that new assistance had already been delivered.

He requested a more detailed work plan specifying the number and timing of home visits, training topics, schools and groups to be visited, and relevant commemorative days. The social centre was to share a reporting format. Members responded, the visitors spoke with some participants and relatives, and the coordinator gave closing remarks. Refreshments and photographs brought the meeting to a close.
