Preparing and participating

We took part in preparatory meetings and a radio discussion, and rehearsed with children before the local celebration. Two children represented CVID-Cam in bead-making activities intended to share skills with others. On the celebration day, children participated in songs and games. The report describes these opportunities to take part, without claiming measured changes in learning or confidence.

Arts and community life

The record also describes our participation in the Youth Festival of Arts and Culture organised by Youth Outreach Programme Cameroon on 14 June. Two young people attended with our coordinator. The account records cultural performances and exhibitions, as well as gifts and dignity kits associated with the wider celebration.

The preparation week

Preparatory meetings were held through the Regional Delegation of Social Affairs with partner organisations. The local celebration was arranged for Saturday 14 June rather than the weekday international observance. Radio activities began during the week of 11 June, and CVID-Cam participated in a CBS discussion.

A creative workshop brought two children from each participating organisation together to learn beadwork for bangles, necklaces and earrings. The intention was that they would share the skills with peers. CVID-Cam’s two representatives also rehearsed at the office on 12 June for the presentations and games planned for the celebration.

Children leading the programme

Children led prayers, the national anthem, songs and other activities. The programme included cultural displays, exhibitions, games and health screening. CVID-Cam participants contributed a song and took part in cards and ludo. The record describes gifts for children, dignity kits for organisations and a prize for a song presentation.

On the same date, Youth Outreach Programme Cameroon invited CVID-Cam to its third Youth Festival of Arts and Culture at Franco-Alliance Hall. Two young people and the coordinator attended. Performances, African dress, exhibitions and the distribution of publications formed part of that separate gathering.
